Harper's Bazaar Content Analysis
Leather was seen 29 times in Harper's Bazaar's August edition, followed by 25 times in the September edition, 26 times in the October issue, 22 times in the November volume, and 19 times in the December volume. Although leather was heavily prevalent throughout all editions its highest concentration was seen in August and September. I think this is because these months perpetuate the most excitement for the upcoming Fall/Winter fashions and trends-- the seasons where leather is most traditionally worn. There was a steady decline in the following months as Spring, Summer, and Resort fashions begin to appear. However, leather was seen all over the runway during the 2014 Spring Mercedes Benz Fashion Week with designers such as Rodarte, Philip Lim, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Alexander Wang, Betsey Johnson, Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler and many more. These designers continue the leather trend, but they adapt and alter it for warmer weather utilizing lighter amounts in trimming, paneling, and faux fabrics. The leather trends were seen in both advertisements and editorials as illustrated above. Classic leather pieces, such as the staple leather jacket, boots, and handbags are definitely in mass consumer acceptance. However the new takes on the trends, including fun colored and textured leather, paneling, and trimming are in the rising innovation and culmination stages of the fashion cycle.
